Social Hazard is a younger paintball scenario team that has rapidly become known as a team whose members embody the spirit of paintball ambassadorship. Befriending newcomers and reaching out to experienced players while striving to elevate the sportsmanship of the game.
Social Hazard originally formed as "Vanguard" in late 2007, but because the members kept wearing shirts with "Social Hazard" printed on them other players kept calling the team by that name instead. Changing their name but not their playing style, the small 3-man team packed a big punch on the playing field while becoming known as an extremely friendly team.
In their short history Social Hazard has increased it's team roster to 16 members and racked-up an impressive list of paintball scenario event awards. The team has been awarded Most Valuable Team seven times, being recognized as Most Feared Opponent (or Most Formidable) six times, and their individual members have been awarded Most Valuable Young Gun and Most Promising New Player three times! All while accepting the demanding role of Commanding Officer or General Officer at 3 scenario events.
The team is structured differently from most; there are no monthly dues and players wishing to join are asked to play with the team on field and spend time with the members off the field as well. If the personality and sportsmanship of the individual fits well with the other team members, the individual is voted into the team. Each team member has an equal vote on all team decisions or ideas. Social Hazard has no TRUE team Captain. It's more like a classical democracy.
Social Hazard's current membership draws from Maryland, Virginia, and North Carolina, with military, law enforcement, fire fighters, students, and business owners swelling the ranks.
"Our idea of having a team tank was inspired from our visit to Skirmish's Invasion of Normandy (ION) 2009. Just seeing all of the different tanks and all of their uses, looked rather, well, useful. Once the design was planned, the tank was built in a single week. Just about every member had a copy of the SplatBrothers' G.S.R.P. and every member contributed to the construction of the tank. Even Assault & Battery helped out with specs for the Cannon. Later, team member Wallace added suspension upgrades to better handle the terrain. Before we knew it, it was rolling off of the trailer for it's first appearance at SplatbrothersĀ®. With the paint still wet from the quick paint job the night before, it passed the Referee inspection" said team member Paul "Oxyfyde" Overman.
"Social Hazard was founded as a Christian paintball team, with a mission to witness to players not just by words but by our actions, our character, and our attitudes. It is one of our goals to be one of the friendliest teams" said Paul Overman. "Our team overview is: having Fun, holding Sportsmanship high, and helping our brothers and sisters in paintball by teaching the proper will to play."
Social Hazard's reputation as a friendly and caring team is well deserved, as demonstrated by their outreach to new players and their support of the sport and communities reached by paintball. "We Referee at Bethel Paintball Park and are helping to make it a better and safer place to play. We attended the Santa vs Grinch Charity Game at SplatBrothersĀ® last December and donated over $300 worth of toys to the cause, even though none of us actually played paintball due to the rain and cold."
Social Hazard, making paintball a better sport, one bruise at a time.
"We Will Not Conform To The Patterns Of This World."
